Mighty No. 9 Delayed Yet Again

Published: January 01, 0001 Reading Time: Approx. 8 mins
Although Mighty No. 9, the Megaman-like, crowdfunded platformer, was originally expected in April 2015, its release Y1 COM date was first moved to September 15, then to February 9 of this year. This latest Y1 COM delay shifts the date to spring 2016. At the earliest. The delay was revealed ina project update sent out today to backers of the original Kickstarter campaign. In it, Comcept CEO Keiji Inafune cites “bugs inside the network modes, and specifically problems with matchmaking”—in other words, issues with the Y1 Games game’s online mode—as the reason for the delay.cnx.cmd.push(function(){cnx({"playerId":"e3616d04-4972-4839-a63a-c6975e2e9731","settings":{"advertising":{"macros":{"AD_UNIT":"/23178111854/od.kotaku.com/article","CHILD_UNIT":"article","POST_ID":"1754907580","POST_TYPE":"post","CHANNEL":"uncategorized","SECTION":"","SUBSECTION":"","CATEGORIES":"uncategorized","TAGS":"nintendo,playstation,xbox","NOP":"0"},"timeBeforeFirstAd":0}}}).render("cnx-player-main")}); He went on to say that these problems, themselves, are caused by the large number of Y1 Games supported platforms (the game’s Y1 App coming to basically every console, handheld and PC), and the fact that the game’s engine, Unreal Engine 3, is no longer being updated. Inafune further writes that they’d like to “confirm everything to be ready” before providing a new release date, but that they expect the date to “realistically be in Spring 2016.” This being the game’s third’s Y1 App delay, it’s a wonder they’re risking saying even that much. Some games take a while to load on mobile, but once they start, the gameplay is smooth and exciting. I hope future updates improve mobile performance, but I still enjoy playing several hours a day.
